How to Order a Custom Cake: A Step-by-Step Guide

A custom cake is the best way to make a celebration feel personal. The process is simpler than most people expect — here's how to order one, step by step.

Step 1: Decide on the basics

Start with the essentials: the occasion, how many people you need to serve, and your preferred sponge and filling. This determines the size and price band before design even comes into it.

• Occasion (birthday, wedding, baby shower, corporate…)
• Number of servings / portions
• Sponge and filling flavours
• Any dietary needs (vegan, gluten-free)

Step 2: Share your design idea

This is where your cake becomes unique. Describe the theme, colours and style — and most importantly, send reference photos. A clear image of a design you like helps our cake artists recreate or reinterpret it accurately.

Step 3: Get a quote and a mock-up

Once we understand your brief, we'll send a price and, for bespoke designs, often a quick mock-up so you know what to expect. You can refine the details before confirming.

How far in advance should I order a custom cake?

Order at least 48 hours ahead for most bespoke cakes. Tiered, sculpted or highly detailed designs are best ordered 3–5 days in advance so our artists have time to do them justice. For weddings, book as early as you can.
